Ms. Phelps graduated with a bachelor of science in physical therapy from the University of Minnesota in 1981. She was certified by the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine, Europe, (IAOM-EUR) in orthopedic medicine and manual therapy in 1989. She became an international instructor for the Academy in 1994 at which time she also received recognition as a speciality instructor in manual therapy by the German Physical Therapy Association.
Valerie Phelps is the founder and director of the IAOM-US, as well as owner and clinical director of Advanced Physical Therapy in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Mat-Su Valley, Alaska. During her years as a physical therapist she has co-authored serveral textbooks, published articles and supported physical therapist research. She is decreasing her national and European lecturing to focus time and energy mentoring her staff and treating patients at the Alaska clinics.
