Advanced Physical Therapy offers a Neurological Rehabilitation Program treating neurological disorders with comprehensive evaluations, hands on manual therapy and intensive one on one movement and skills training with strengthening and conditioning as needed. Neurological problems include spinal cord injuries, stroke, traumatic brain injuries, multiple sclerosis and a variety of other nerve related pathologies. Comprehensive evaluations may include one or more of the following:
- Activity tolerance
- Strength and balance
- Spasticity and coordination
- Gait analysis and functional motion
- Clinical examination to determine associated, painful orthopedic disorders
Rehabilitation involves focused care to allow for the best functional gains and successful recovery possible. The clinical environment has been recognized for its aesthetic influence on the process of healing. Specially designed equipment enables the patient to feel more comfortable during the rehab process. Your rehabilitation may include:
- Video taping for gait training and orthotics
- Unweighting equipment for functional training of lower extremities
- Forced-use principles and neuro-development techniques to regain functional use of weakened or paretic extremities
Patients will also be assessed for orthopedic issues. Neurologically impaired patients often have malaligned posture and joint contractures secondary to their weakness and spasticity. These issues will be addressed by combining the advanced training of our orthopedic specialists with knowledge and experience of our neurological specialist. By utilizing orthopedic and neurological expertise we are able to create a healing environment that addresses all the needs of the individual patient.
