Headache Diagnosis & Treatment
DIAGNOSING AND TREATING A HEADACHE
Patients often suffer from more than one type of headache, and symptoms can be very similar. However, each type of headache responds best to a specific treatment. Poor posture and upper back stiffness can cause tension headaches. Loss of motion in the neck joints or weak neck muscles, such as seen after whiplash, can be a major cause of headache and neck pain.
Frequently headaches experienced as a result of myofascial trigger points, upper back stiffness, or neck dysfunction can be as severe as a migraine. If your headaches do not respond to medication, you will likely benefit from manual therapy that alleviates joint and muscle stiffness in the neck and upper back region.
TREATMENT MAY INCLUDE:
Evaluation of postural, joint and muscular dysfunction
Manual therapy to correct joint and muscular dysfunction
Education on posture and body mechanics
Pacing and self-management skills
